Judges 17 - 21
In Name Only

Judges 17-21 gets dark.  Ending with "In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit."  J. C. Ryle desscribed formalism as "when a person is a Christian in name only, and not in reality - in ourward thigs only and not their inward feelings - in profession only and not in pratice".  To redefine God, rather than submit to God.  Titus 1:16.
